Bandipur National Park is India’s one of the best known sanctuaries. It is a confluence of the Western Ghats and Nilgiri hills. This reserve is a part of nilgiri biosphere reserve with Nagarhole national park to the north west, the Madumalai National Park of Tamilnadu and the Wayanad wildlife sanctuary of Kerala. The highest point of the park is at Gopalaswamy Betta Peak at 1454 meters. It is home to around 70 Tigers, over 3000 Asian Elephants and many animals like Leopards, Wild Dogs, Gaurs, Sloth Bears and Bird life.
It is a notified national park which includes rocky hills and valleys drain by rivers Kabini, Nugu, Moyar and numerous small streams. Mar-June and Sep-Nov attracts major tourist influx to this region because of pleasant climate and Kabini reservoir host huge congregations of large mammals emerge to drink water during this time.
